The atrium provides a beautifully prepared space for a child to build their relationship with the Good Shepherd. The quiet of the atrium gives the child the freedom to pray and ponder at their own pace. Often a child will begin to look for ways to find that quiet at home.
Creating a basic prayer table or prayer basket is an easy way to provide an opportunity for quiet prayer at home. There are some very simple items that can be made accessible to allow the child to take time with the Good Shepherd.

- Keep your prayer items on a shelf or table that is always accessible to your child.
- Include a basic cloth, in the liturgical colors of green , purple, white and red if possible. A napkin or fabric remnant is perfect for this.
- Look for simple images of the Good Shepherd or small statues or crucifixes that can be added to the basket. Children are drawn to sacred art.
- An electric candle allows the child to use the basket completely unassisted.
- Add a bible and encourage your child to use it if they are able, if not you can read for them. Instead of using a childrens bible, choose a bible that allows them to hear the same words at home that they hear during Mass. This would be the New American Bible.
